Kulttuurimatkalla: Pietari Underground

Pietari Underground

Miljoonakaupunki Pietari on kultturimatkailun kohteena kotimaisessa ohjelmasarjassa Pietari Underground. Viisiosainen sarja kertoo Leningradin/Pietarin epävirallisen kulttuurin historiasta reilun puolen vuosisadan ajalta. Sarjassa on mukana useita elämäntavan kuluttamia kiinnostavia haastateltavia. Esimerkiksi prosaisti, historioitsija Lev Lurie on viettänyt koko elämänsä ”Saigonin” liepeillä. Saigon oli legendaarinen kahvila-ravintola kaupungin keskustassa, jossa rockmuusikot, taiteilijat ja runoilijat tapasivat toisiaan 1960-, 70-, ja 80-luvuilla. Epävirallisen taiteen keskuksessa Pushkininkatu kympissä pitää toimistoaan ikirokkari Kolja Vasin, jolla on paljon mielenkiintoista kerrottavaa 1950-luvulta tähän päivään. Mukana on myös perestroikan ja avoimuuden ajan esiin nostamia taiteilijoita, joiden performanssit puhuttelevat tänäkin päivänä. Kulttuurimatkalla: Pietari Underground YLE Teemalla torstaisin alkaen 23.11.2006 klo 19:00.

We took cameras so that we could prove that we went.” These seven features and hefty bonus section comprise a revolution in the business of going places, doing things, and telling people about the places you went and the things you did. Hotel as Home: The Art of Living on the Road (Princeton Architectural Press, 2006)

Hotel as Home

Architect and photographer Gary Chang has a strange obsession: he absolutely loves hotels. It’s a good thing, as he spends about 120 days a year traveling all over the world. Chang has become something of a hotel expert, but meeting his exacting standards for a suitable home away from home isn’t easy. He doesn’t stay at just any hotel. He plans his trips with exhaustive research on the hotels of his destination and even stays at several different ones during the same trip to one city. His favorite hotels are those places that have a certain special quality, ranging from New York’s kitschy Maritime to Budapest’s classic Gellert to Zurich’s brand-spanking new Zurichberg. Chang’s most-loved finds are documented in beautiful photographs, his hand drawn floor plans, and personal texts in Hotel as Home. He presents thirty-five hotels from around the world in this wonderfully atmospheric book – from the Hotel 101 in Reykjavik to the Hotel Le Corbusier in Marseilles, the Soho House Hotel in New York, the W Hotel in Sydney, the Four Seasons in Tokyo, and the Hotel Metropolitan in Bangkok. Whether it’s the all-white design of Starck’s Delano South Beach Hotel in Miami, the Art Deco brass beds and chandeliers in the rooms of Istanbul’s Pera Palaca Hotel, or the Zen atmosphere of London’s Hotel Hempel, there’s something to love in all of the hotels shown here. This a must-have for business class road warriors and all travelers in search of a unique, memorable, and rejuvenating hotel experience.

Hotelli Helka

Arkkitehti Wivi Lönnin vuonna 1928 suunnittelema Hotelli Helkan talo on kokenut valtavan sisäisen muodonmuutoksen. Matka 2006 Helsingin Messukeskuksessa 19.-22.01.2006

Matka 2006

Matkakuume nousee, kun Pohjoismaiden suurin matkailualan tapahtuma Matka 2006 avaa ovensa 19.01.2006 Helsingin Messukeskuksessa. Puolitoista ensimmäistä päivää on suunnattu alan ammattilaisille; kuluttajille messut avaavat ovensa perjantai-iltapäivänä. Luvassa on Matkan 20-vuotisjuhlavuosi, jonka teemana on ”Matka 2006 – 20 vuotta elämyksiä”. Matka-messujen teema ”elämykset” heijastelee alalla vallitsevaa suuntausta.

The Pure, Frankfurt, Germany

The Pure

A 19th century loft in the heart of Frankfurt was completely renovated to create The Pure – a hotel which both captures and expresses the open-minded, cosmopolitan spirit of the city. The lobby, the breakfast room, the bar and the lounge form a harmonic open space known as the ”Living Room”. The choice of exclusively light coloured materials such as white leather, Thassos marble, white lacquer and light grey floors allow the building and its structures to recede into the background and directs the focus to the energy and activity within the space. Lighting and music are skilfully implemented to enhance the experience. Mornings are filled with soft illumination and tunes to create an ambience of calm vitality. At night The Pure transforms into an oasis full of energy, underscored by vibrant orange-coloured visual effects. The Pure’s patio is an extension of this communicative space. Its Timbertech decking is outfitted with oversized Fatboy bean bags, fountains, bamboo, mirrors, and stairs designed for comfortable sitting rather than climbing. The idea of space without borders is continued in the guestrooms. Here, the sense of openness is emphasised by clean-lined furnishings and light fabrics, high ceilings from which custom-made plissé lampshades are suspended, and bathtubs partially enclosed by glass. High-gloss African zebrawood and oak parquet offset the pure, white elements and lend balance and warmth. Preferring reduced clarity to unnecessary additives, the design and overall concept remain true to the hotel’s name.

What is sexy? When it comes to hotels and resorts, Sexy, Inc. has the answer. After reviewing over a thousand properties across the globe, Sexy, Inc. has published the first ever listing of the World’s Sexiest Hotels. Marc Holland, founder of Sexy, Inc. says, ”Over 1000 properties were evaluated and winners were chosen according to style, architecture, ambiance, service, mood, and emotion.” Holland added, ”Defining sexy was the fun part of the job. Sexy has nothing to do with price, size, or reputation, but rather how all those elements come together to create a sensual experience that evokes a feeling of true transcendence for the guest.” Holland goes on to say, ”We found that hotels and resorts are either sexy or they’re not. It’s not something you can fake. Sexy could be a desert mega-resort, a sleek New York City business hotel, a cliffside retreat in Positano, or plantation cottages in the Caribbean.” World’s 100 Sexiest Hotels is a luxury travel-ranking co-venture between Sexy, Inc., Sky Radio Network, and SkyAuction.com, a leading online travel auction company.
