Babla & His Orchestra: Babla’s Disco Sensation (Babla)
Throughout the late 70′s and early 80′s Indian artist Babla & His Orchestra created a musical revolution throughout India, and then the western world. Covering famous Bollywood movie title tracks of the time and giving them the “new disco touch” Babla created the “Disco Dandia” movement which saw him tour the world and become a household name in India. Pressings of this album have become incredibly rare over the years as they were never seriously collected or preserved in India… you can rarely find this album for under £150! Babla’s famously diverse musical arrangements, heavy sitar funk and moog bleeps have won him a whole host of fans from breaks collectors to modern disco beardo’s… Metro Area used Ghar Aya Mera Pardesi on their recent Fabric mix CD. Espoo Ciné 2009
Kahdettakymmenettä Espoo Cinéä juhlitaan 21.-30. elokuuta. Juhlavuoden ohjelmiston rungon muodostaa uusi eurooppalainen elokuva: perinteisesti hyvin edustettua olleen saksan- ja espanjankielisen elokuvan rinnalla saa tänä vuonna erityisen aseman myös uusi ranskalainen elokuva. Mukana ovat mm. Claude Chabrolin uutuus Bellamy sekä Jean-Paul Lilienfeldin ohjaama La Journée de la Jupe. Syksyn odotetuin kotimainen elokuva, Zaida Bergrothin esikoispitkä Skavabölen pojat on myös ennakkoensi-illassa. Cine Español. Una crónica visual -näyttelyssä esitellään ainutlaatuisen upeiden valokuvien ja julisteiden avulla espanjalaisen elokuvan koko komea historia. Kulttuurikeskuksen lisäksi elokuvia esitetään tänä vuonna myös Bio Rex Sellossa ja Kulttuurikompleksi Andorrassa.

Alvar Aallon kädenjälki Helsingissä -näyttely Laiturilla 29.08.2009 saakka
Helsingin kaupunkisuunnitteluviraston näyttelytilassa Laiturilla on elokuun loppuun saakka esillä Alvar Aallon kädenjälki Helsingissä -näyttely. Näyttely esittelee parikymmentä Aallon suunnittelemaa yksityistä asuintaloa, toimisto- ja liikerakennusta sekä erilaisille yhteisöille suunniteltua kohdetta. Aallon suunnittelemat kohteet ovat merkittävä osa Helsingin kaupunkikuvaa ja arvokasta rakennusperintöä. Suuri osa niistä on kansainvälisesti tunnettuja merkkitöitä, joihin tullaan tutustumaan eri puolilta maailmaa. Lisäksi näyttelyssä on esillä todellisia harvinaisuuksia, kuten Aallon taksinkuljettajalleen suunnittelema omakotitalo Pitäjänmäellä.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (Honest Jon’s Records)
The irrepressibly funky Hypnotic Brass Ensemble finally deliver their long awaited, absolutely incredible debut album for Honest Jon’s! The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble began as a family group on the south side of Chicago in 1986. The eight horn-playing brothers were led by their father and teacher Kelan Phil Cohran, lead trumpeter of jazz group Sun Ra and mentor to the Pharaohs (later called Earth Wind and Fire). In 1999 the brothers combined their efforts and began performing a new style of brass music they termed “hypnotic.” These ambassadors of brass are now building an international following with their signature infusion of imaginative jazz arrangements with a hip-hop sensibility.
