Boogie (powerHouse Books, 2008)
Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Boogie began photographing rebellion and unrest during the civil war that ravaged his country during the 1990s. Though he never planned to leave his homeland, a green card won in the national lottery brought him to the United States in 1998. Boogie settled in Brooklyn, where he resumed his photographic pursuit of those living on the fringe, outside the law, in the margins of society. Selected by Photo District News as Best Photography Book of 2006, his first book, It’s All Good, documents the gangsters, crackheads, and junkies of New York City’s most notorious neighborhoods. Boogie, his second monograph, is a limited edition of 500 signed and numbered slipcased books with a print. This collection of some of the photographer’s most personal images has been gathered during his travels through life with camera in hand.

Tanskalaissyntyisen ruotsalaisarkkitehdin Erik Asmussenin arkkitehtuuri tarjoaa merkittävän vaihtoehdon sekä modernismin kapealle, teknologiselle funktionalismille että postmodernismin eklektisille rakennuksille. Asmussen suunnitteli rakennuksensa ilmaisemaan niiden kattamien toimintojen sisäistä henkeä sekä tukemaan toimintaa käytännön tasolla. Alvar Aalto Akatemian luento tarjoaa katsauksen Asmussenin ekologisen, henkisesti uudistavan ja orgaanisesti ilmaisuvoimaisen arkkitehtuurin perusteisiin ja sisältää runsaasti esimerkkejä arkkitehdin Ruotsin Järnassa sijaitsevalle antroposofiselle yhteisölle suunnittelemasta kylämäisestä rakennusryhmittymästä.

Anton Corbijnin retrospektiivinen näyttely Taidemuseo Tennispalatsissa 21.05.-31.08.2008
Taidemuseo Tennispalatsissa avautuu 21. toukokuuta Anton Corbijnin retrospektiivinen näyttely. Valokuvaaja-ohjaaja Anton Corbijnin teokset ovat tuttuja niillekin, jotka eivät tunne häntä nimeltä. Taiteilija nousi 1970-luvulla maineeseen rock- ja jazzmuusikkoja esittävillä valokuvillaan ja on sittemmin ohjannut n. 80 musiikkivideota ja kuvannut yli 100 levynkantta. Corbijnin kameralle ovat poseeranneet mm. David Bowie, U2, Depeche Mode, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash ja Björk. Corbijnin ylistetty esikoiselokuva Control valmistui vuonna 2007. Näyttely esittelee Corbijnin neljä keskeisintä valokuvasarjaa 1970-luvulta 2000-luvulle.

Gallery Kalhama & Piipossa on avautunut ruotsalaisen Berliinissä asuvan Marcus Eekin laaja yksityisnäyttely Minnesluckor / Black-Outs. Eekin tuotanto sijoittuu 1990-luvun lopun pohjoismaisen maalaustaiteen uuden tulemisen ytimeen. Kymmenisen vuotta sitten keskustelu maalaustaiteen kuolemasta oli huipussaan. Eekin teoksissa kiteytyvät ne ajankohtaiset maalauksen ominaisuudet – itsevarmuus, herkkyys ja teho – jotka ovat tuoneet tämän keskustelun päätepisteeseensä.
