As the front man of The Clash from 1977 onwards, Joe Strummer changed people’s lives forever. Four years after his death, his influence reaches out around the world, more strongly now than ever before. In The Future Is Unwritten, from British film director Julien Temple, Joe Strummer is revealed not just as a legend or musician, but as a true communicator of our times. Thilges: La Double Absence (Staubgold)
After “Die offene Gesellschaft”, “La Double Absence” is Thilges’ second fulltime release for Staubgold: Western experimental music meets oriental art music. Thilges has been one of Austria’s standard bands for sophisticated experimental and electronic music for a long time. The Persian vocalist Zohreh Jooya is a widely known interpreter of Persian and Afghan music, and Asim Al-Chalabi who composed the tracks with Thilges is regarded as grandmaster of the oud in the Arabic world. “La Double Absence” offers everything a good pop record asks for: catchy melodies, complex rhythms, and a downright atmospheric density. The music is about bacchanal, melancholic, and difficult situations, thus simply about life. This is international music; timeless, beautiful, meditative, and complex. Playlist: MP3.

Handmade Nation
In 2006 artist and filmmaker Faythe Levine traveled over 19,000 miles to document the new wave of craft in America. She visited 15 cities and interviewed more than 50 indie artist, crafters and designers. Her exploration of the community resulted in 80 hours of video, which are now being edited into a documentary. Flow-festivaali muuttaa taas! Uusi tapahtumapaikka on Suvilahden entinen voimala-alue, joka tarjoaa oivalliset ja yhtenäiset puitteet sekä päiväohjelmalle että iltaklubeille. Festivaalin päätapahtumapaikka rakennetaan voimalan tunnelmalliselle piha-alueelle, ja iltaklubit järjestetään vanhan höyryvoimalan näyttävässä Kattilahallissa. Flow valittiin vuoden tapahtumaksi perjantaina järjestetyssä Basso Gaalassa, jossa palkittiin viime vuoden parhaita tekijöitä. Festivaalin tämän vuoden ohjelmisto julkistetaan 21. toukokuuta.
Museoviikko 14.-20.05.2007
Valtakunnallisen museoviikon teemana on Museot ja yhteinen perintö. Museot ovat yhteisen inhimillisen perinnön vaalijoita ja kokoelmiensa kautta ne jakavat tätä tietoa ja sen ajankohtaista merkitystä kävijöille. Viikon aikana kurkistetaan kokoelmiin ja tutustutaan julkisiin veistoksiin. Tarjolla on teatteria, työpajoja, luentoja ja musiikkia. Perjantaina 18. toukokuuta vietetään Kansainvälistä museopäivää ja lauantaina 19. toukokuuta eurooppalaista museoiden yötä. Museoviikkoon osallistuivat museot kautta maan.
